The last few weeks have been incredibly helpful in creating videos to use in my class that are both informational and have entertainment value. The use of xtranormal as well as so other videos I’ve been able to edit have been really helpful. Without this class I’m not sure I would know about these tools that are available to help enhance my classroom presentations. Unfortunately the presentations I’ve done are saved at school and I’m writing this from home or I’d be able to share them with you.
This class has been a lot of work for me. I feel like I’m pretty technologically savvy but I didn’t have a lot of experiencing in formatting in word or setting up a spreadsheet since much earlier versions of Office back in high school.
I’m in the process of completing student teaching while taking this class. I am glad I’ve been able to do this because I can incorporate some of the things I learn here into my lessons. Using technology in the classroom is one of the best ways to engage students in the lessons you design. There are a ton of different ways to do this and by becoming proficient in the basic programs, it really has helped incorporate the small things into my classroom that help create a better lesson.
I think the biggest part of using technology in the classroom is that you just have to use trial and error. You have to discover what works best for you and your students. Some classes handle technology better than others and some respond to different kinds of technology, you just have to try and see what works for you.
My name is Tim Busse and I am starting this blog as a project for a technology education course I’m taking at Ashland University. I am in my final semester at Ashland, working toward my teaching license in 7-12 Integrated Social Studies. I completed my undergraduate degree at The Ohio State University with a degree in History. I have coached football for the past seven years and would like to continue doing so. I recently learned to really enjoy reading. I decided that I wanted to be a teacher my sophomore year of college. I’m currently doing my student teaching at Fairbanks High School in Union County, teaching World History and American Government.
I would say that I chose Social Studies for many reasons, however, to prevent this blog from being too boring, let’s just say that I like to discuss and debate ideas and you can’t debate mathematics or chemistry and I struggled with Shakespeare. Everyone says they want to change the world for the better and I am no different. I believe that teaching is the best opportunity to accomplish that goal. I see a lot of things that I’d like to change and influence, therefore teaching was the natural choice. There are a lot of things I see wrong with education and I’ll talk about that throughout my blog. I’ll end my first post with a video I found very interesting and hopefully worth your time.
